The Sacred Valley is found to the east of Cusco (one hour by car), and is situated at 2,850 m.a.s.l. This valley was highly appreciated by the Incas due to its unique geographical and climatic qualities. It was one of the principal points of food production for the wealth of lands and microclimates which can be found there; producing as a result the best kernels of corn in all of Perú and the world. Additionally, it had a significant relationship with “Andean Astronomy,” as it was considered the counterpart of the Milky Way – the Inca believed that opposite forces kept the balance of the universe. They expressed this message through the construction of cities and temples in the form of their constellations.
