Lares – Machu Picchu in 4 days
Itinerary:
Day 1: Cusco - Calca - Lares Hot Springs – Wacawasi (L, D)
We leave from Cusco early in the morning by bus and travel through the Sacred Valley, arriving at Lares Hot Springs. We spend the morning in the medicinal hot springs and after lunch we have four hours of trekking to our campsite. |

Day 2: Wacawasi – Epsaycocha (B, L, D)
After continuing up through the valley, we arrive at the community of Huacawasi. People here produce some of the finest weavings in Peru. We will observe their great skills and brilliant techniques as they make ponchos and other garments. Passing the village we begin climbing up to Condor Pass, the second pass of the trip at 4300m. From here, we catch a stunning view of the renowned Mount Veronica (5750m.) Descending gently for about one hour, we come to the beautiful Epsaycocha Lake, our last campsite. |

Day 3: Epsaycocha - Ollantaytambo – Aguas Calientes (B, L, D)
Today our trail leads downhill to an overlook facing a wide valley. Descending into the valley, we eventually arrive at the community of Willoq, where we have lunch. Finally arriving to Ollantaytambo. Situated in a fertile river valley and sheltered by mammoth mountains, this ancient Inca village is considered one of the most important living museums in the world.
In the afternoon the group takes Train Back Packer from Ollantaytambo – Aguas Calientes and spends the night there in a comfortable hotel in Aguas Calientes

Day 4: Aguas Calientes – Machu Picchu – Cusco (B)
After an early breakfast, we'll take the bus to Machu Picchu. There we will register and start on our 2 hour guided visit. After enjoying the ruins, we will take the bus down to Aguas Calientes, where you will have free time to enjoy the town and have time for lunch before we return to Cusco.

We recommended taking:
- A small backpack with a change of clothes for the whole period of the trek
- A big backpack with: Warm clothes, including jacket, fleeces. Thermal clothing is also recommended, especially for sleeping
- Rain gear (jacket and pants if available) or rain poncho (plastic ponchos can be purchased in Cusco)
- Small towel and Swimsuit
- Strong footwear, waterproof trekking boots recommended
- Sandals for relax moments
- Flashlight, camera, binoculars, films and batteries (batteries consume more quickly under cold conditions)
- Hat or cap to protect you from the sun, rain and cold
- Gloves, scarf, handkerchiefs
- Sun block, after-sun cream or hydrating cream for face and body
- Insect repellent – minimum recommended 20% DEET
- Toilet paper
- Personal first-aid kit
- Snacks: biscuits, energy bars, chocolate, raw fruits, muesli, etc.
- Non-disposable canteen (Nalgene type) and water for the first morning. Optionally: water sterilizing tablets in case you pick up water from streams or rivers along the route. Otherwise, we provide filtered boiled water, which is safe to drink and has not reported any health problem so far.
- Cash in soles and/or US$ (no ATM machines)
- Optional: walking sticks or poles
Notes:
- If you want to ride a horse during the entire long walk, you can rent it by USD 20 per day. You couldn’t ride in descent.
